Abstract

This research aims to explain the foreign policy of the United States (US) regarding human rights violations in Xinjiang, China during the administration of President Joe Biden.. Human rights violations occur because of the complexity of history, culture and religion in a country, one of which is China, which has committed human rights violations against the people of Xinjiang, especially the Uighur Muslim ethnic group. To understand the response given by the US, the author uses the concept of foreign policy according to K.J Holsti which consists of four main components in a foreign policy from general to specific, namely: (i) Foreign policy orientation, (ii) National role , (iii) National goals, and (iv) National actions. The research method used by the author in writing this thesis is a qualitative research method with a descriptive analytical model. The results of this research are that the US government responded in the form of diplomatic action and economic sanctions against China. This is proven because the Chinese government has committed serious human rights violations against the people of Xinjiang, with many findings in the form of Chinese government policies, especially towards the Uighur ethnic group, such as the construction of Uighur concentration camps and religious, educational and social restrictions.
