Abstract

This research tries to find out the teaching method used by the teacher of English First Malang in teaching English for young learners especially on High Flyers program and the reason of choosing those teaching methods. The researcher used descriptive-qualitative research with the teacher of English First Malang in teaching English for Young Learners especially on High Flyers Program as the research subject. Techniques and instruments used by the researcher to collect the data were observation including observation checklist as the instrument and interview including interview guide as the instrument. The findings of this research shows that the teacher of English First Malang in teaching English for young learners especially on High Flyers Program used two kinds of teaching methods. Those methods were Present Practice Produce (PPP) teaching method and Engage Study Activate (ESA) teaching method. There were three reasons of the teacher of English First Malang especially in High Flyers Program in using each teaching method. The reasons for the English First Malang teacher in using PPP teaching method were: the teaching methods match to the purpose of the learning, the teaching methods matched to the students’ need, and the target language is unfamiliar for the students. In addition, there were three reasons for English First Malang teacher in using ESA teaching method to match the purpose of the learning, to match the students’ need, and the target language.
