Abstract

Reading is one of the basic skills of English. It is a process by which often used to get the information. In education, reading is an important component to understand in learning that refers to the quality of teaching learning. Not only that, it is innovative concept in education because it has important role to provide effective and efficient learning. The learning method is a systematic concept because it is framework to organize learning concepts. Classroom Action Research is motivated by the low English scores that are still below the KKM (75), especially in the aspect of reading comprehension. The students had lacked understanding the material described so the student gets confidence to make paragraphs in English. This study aims to improve learning outcomes in reading comprehension on the subject of descriptive text in cycle 1 and cycle 2, using the SQ3R method. This research was conducted in August 2019, located in class VIII-J of MTsN Batu. This type of research is Classroom Action Research with two cycles, each cycle consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Data collection techniques and tools in this study used descriptive analysis techniques for the data in the form of student work documents, grades, and observation sheets. The results showed that with the SQ3R method there was a pleasant learning atmosphere so that student learning outcomes improved, from the results of cycle I to Cycle II there was an increase, in cycle 1 the number of students who received complete grades was 3 students or 9.45%, the value of incomplete in the cycle 1 is 29 students or 87.88%, while in cycle 2 an increase in the completion value is 32 students or 100% an increase of 90.55%. It was concluded that the SQ3R method can improve learning outcomes in reading comprehension.
