Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases characterized by hyperglycemia that occurs due to abnormal insulin secretion, insulin action or both. The pharmacological therapy consisting of oral antidiabetic drugs consisting of sulfonylurea group, Biguanid, Tiazolidindion, Alpha Glucosidase Inhibitor, and DPP-IV Inhibitors. Glimepiride is a third-generation Sulfonylurea group that use for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. This drug can provide a fast onset, duration prolonged work, and minor side effects of hypoglycemia. Objective: This study aims to determine the patterns of oral use of antidiabetic Glimepiride including dose, route, frequency, pattern, and duration of drug use. Method: Retrospective method observational research for type 2 diabetes mellitus patient in Dr.Iskak Hospital of TulungagungDistrcit. Result and Conclusions: There was a single pattren of Glimepiride use in 19 patients (58%), combination of 2drugin 10 patients (30%), combination of 3 drugin 2 patients (6%), combination of 4drugin 2 patients (6%). The most single pattern is Glimepiride(1x2mg) po in 19 patients (100%). The most of 2 combination pattern is Glimepiride (1x2mg)po + Metformin (1x500mg)po, Glimepiride (1x2mg)po + Metformin (2x500mg)po in 4 patients (25%). There are 3pattern of combination 3 drugs each given to 1 patient with a percentage (25%). There are 3 pattern of combination 4 drugs each was given to 1 patient with a percentage (33%).
