Abstract

Teaching strategies refer to methods used to help students to learn English. Teachers should have a good strategy to teach. English is a foreign language for Indonesian students, so teachers get problem in teaching. Problem is some difficulties faced by students on mastering such skill. Teachers also should have solutions to solve the problems in teaching English. Solutions is the way to solve the problems in teaching process. This research was conducted to find the strategies that the teacher used to teach English reading and writing. Another problem was the problems faced by the teacher in the teaching process, also the way to solve the problems. The method of this research applied qualitative research. The object of this research was “The Corn Is Green” play script by Emlyn Williams. This research was a literature research, the researcher used objective approach, because this research had no connection with the author’s life or background. The technique used to conduct this research was document analysis. However, the instrument used was human instrument. From the result of data analysis, it was found two strategies of teaching reading, namely Think-aloud strategy and ARC strategy. Moreover, there were two strategies of teaching writing found in the play script, namely inquiry strategies and pre-writing strategies. The researcher also provided some suggestions for teachers is expected to get knowledge about the teaching strategies, teaching problems, and the way to solve the problems in teaching reading and writing for Senior High School. For further researcher, this research can be worthy inspiration for those who want to do further research in teaching strategies, especially in teaching reading and writing for Senior High School.
