Abstract

Background: Insulin leaf is one of the plants that has anti-diabetes properties. The availability of circulating insulin leaf on the market is still very simple in the form of steeping herbal tea and capsule. In this research, the availability of standardized insulin leaf extract tablet was developed. Objective: The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of 1%, 2%, and 3% PVP K-30 levels on the physical quality of insulin leaf extract tablets and determine the optimum levels of PVP K-30 that can form tablets that meet the requirements. Method: Insulin leaf extract was made by maceration kinetics method by using 96% ethanol solvent. Tablets were made by wet granulation method by using K-30 PVP binder with a ratio of 1%, 2%, and 3% content. Physical quality examination of insulin leaf extract tablets included hardness, friability, and disintegration time of tablets, then analyzed statistically. Results and Conclusions: The results of the research showed that increasing PVP K-30 levels could increased hardness, reduced friability, and slowed down disintegration time of tablets. Statistical analysis showed a significant difference in the hardness and disintegration time of tablets. However, the fragility of tablet occured at 1% and 3% levels. Formula with 1% K-30 PVP level (F2) was the chosen formula in the formulation of insulin leaf extract tablets.
