Abstract

This study aimed at describing and explaining the communication acts of opinion leaders on the alcoholic group at at Sumbergadung Sub village, Sumberagung Village, Ngantang District, Malang Regency. This study used the communicative action theory of Jurgen Habermas, in which the communication acts were actions that carried out based on the agreed norms, everyday symbols, cultural reproduction, social integration, and socialization. This study used qualitative study type with descriptive study type and the basic study of naturalistic. The subjects of this study were peoples who were considered as opinion leaders because they had a position in the community, so that their words were heard and often asked for help by other people in that village. The opinion leaders were chosen because they were directly involved to do the communication acts with the existing alcoholic group. Observation, interview, and documentation were used as the data collection techniques. The results of this study were that the communication acts of opinion leaders at Sumbergadung Sub Village were the actions carried out based on four norms, of which norms were applied in the community. Based on the religious norms, the communication acts taken were religious discourse in every religious activity that took place in the village, material distribution about religion at the Youth Organization (Karang Taruna) meetings, involving the alcoholic group in every religious activity, and also providing the worship time in every activity that took place. Based on the law norms, the communication acts that carried out were in the form of direct appeal to alcoholic group and those closest to them, and involving the alcoholic group with useful activities. Based on the decency norms, it was carried oy by giving examples of good behavior to the alcoholic group. And based on the morality norms, it was carried out by not distinguishing between the alcoholic group and other communities.
