Abstract

The Surabaya Zoo's Instagram social media account namely @kebunbinatangsurabaya is one of the tourist promotion media. Surabaya Zoo has been established more than a century ago. But behind its success, the Surabaya Zoo is often a controversial tourist spot because many animals die. The climax of the controversy in 2015 made the Surabaya Zoo create an Instagram account to restore its good image and as a promotional medium. Until the planning of this study was made, no data was found about the effectiveness of the @kebunbinatangsurabaya instagram account, so this research was conducted. This study uses a quantitative approach with survey methods and random sampling data collection techniques to determine the number of respondents who have been selected as many as 51 followers. Data is presented descriptively and in tabular form. Researchers used three categories to measure the level of effectiveness in this study, namely the Attention, Interest and Desire categories. The results showed that the value of the Attention category was 3.04 out of 5 which meant that it was quite effective, the Interest category of 2.73 out of 5 that was included in the level of quite effective and in the Desire category a value of 3.20 out of 5 was quite effective. Based on the results, the average score of the overall effectiveness of the category is 2.99. From this amount it can be concluded that the level of effectiveness of the @kebunbinatangsurabaya instagram account is quite effective.
