Abstract

Soil is a collection of minerals, organic matter and relatively loose deposits located on bedrock (bedrock). Relatively weak granules can be caused by carbonates, organic matter or oxides that settle between the particles. Therefore it is important to know the properties of the soil and the value percentage of the soil in order to avoid failure in planning when using native soil. In this research, the addition of red brick powder waste mixed in the original soil originating from Abumbun Jaya Village, Sungai Tabuk Subdistrict, South Kalimantan. Research activities carried out at the Civil Engineering Laboratory of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang include several test methods that are in accordance with research standards, namely testing water content, specific gravity, liquid limit, plastic limit, content weight, CBR (california bearing ratio) testing and free compressive strength. In this test the added additive is red brick powder by 5%, 10% and 15%. Based on the results of the research obtained the original soil characteristic values obtained in the form of water content 68.47%, specific gravity 2.548, liquid limit 61.50%, plastic limit 36.66%, plastic index24.83%, pore number 1.32, weight content maximum dry weight is 1,322 gr / cm ^ 3, omc 34.61%, CBR 3.08% and free compressive strength 6.093 kn / m ^ 2. With the addition of red brick powder 5%, 10% and 15% there was a decrease in the value of the liquid limit, plastic limit and plastic index and an increase in the CBR value. From this percentage to be used as an ordinary pile there is an addition of 15% red brick powder according to the unified classification system the soil is included in the category of low plasticity and for the CBR value obtained at 6.20%.
