Abstract

Headmaster’s role as a manager has significant position in increasing school’s quality. According to that reason, this study focused on the leadership of headmaster to increase schools’ achievement. Descriptive study and descriptive qualitative approach was chosen by the researcher in conducting this study. This study conducted at MTSN 1 Kota Bima and MTs Muhammadiyah Kota Bima. Data collection techniques used in this study was: (1) profound interview with headmaster, teacher, vice headmaster, students, ministry of religious affairs and committee; (2) observation to know the representation of school situation, when the headmaster has meeting and guiding the teachers, and observation about students’ activities; and (3) documentation was selected based on purposive sampling technique and was combined with snowball sampling technique. Furthermore, the data obtained from the school would be analyzed by using data reduction step, data display and conclusion. Also, the researcher used triangulation resource and method to verify the validity of the data that being analyzed. In conclusion, the researcher got a result as follows: (1) there is a differences of leadership in both school which result in culture achievement difference; (2) the differences of self-building to the student, MTSN I is not only did a self-building for the competition as their preparation, but also the continuity of self-building in every week. On the other hand, MTS Muhammadiyah has different ways to do self-building unlikely MTSN I did. Hence, it makes both schools has different cultural achievement.
