Language community is a group of people who regard themselves as using the same language. A particular group of people may use particular terms or vocabulary when they are interacting or communicating with the others. Short Message Services (SMS) is one of the communication tools that use unique terms in their interaction. Their particular language is usually called as slang. Slang is one of language varietys that are used based on the used of subject matter. This study concerned with the discussion of slang in the SMS used by members of OSIS organization at SMU Negeri 01 Batu. This study, analyzed three problems (1) What are the slang words used by members of OSIS organization at SMU Negeri 01 Batu in sending SMS? (2) What are the meanings of slang words used by members of OSIS organization at SMU Negeri 01 Batu in sending SMS? (3) Why do members in OSIS organization at SMU Negeri 01 Batu use slang to write SMS? In this study, the writer used descriptive method that described the phenomena of the slang used by themembers of OSIS at SMU Negeri 01 Batu. The subject of this study was the slang in the SMS used by members of OSIS organization at SMU Negeri 01 Batu. Meanwhile, for the instrument, the writer interviews the informants and used documentation. The result showed there were 110 slangs used by members of OSIS organization at SMU Negeri 01 Batu. Some of the slangs used are: BT (Bad mood), 4 get(forget), Ng-Jam (call in 2 second), Mcl2 (missed call), Mkn (Eating), Mnm (drinking), Tdr (sleeping), Cayo (See you), Nx (Question), Kastok ( Give Information), Gpl (Don’t get too long), Cay (darling). Some reasons why the members of OSIS organization used slang are: as their secret language, for their daily communication in their community, and more cheaper in one SMS sending.
