Abstract

Elementary school of Muhammadiyah 8 Malang is a school that implements a Strengthening of Character Education Based on School Culture program. The writer observed all students at elementary school of Muhammadiyah 8 Malang who were related to Strengthening of Character Education Based on School Culture activities. Based on this, the purpose of this study is to find out: the implementation of strengthening culture-based character education, the obstacles faced in implementing strengthening culture-based character education, efforts to overcome obstacles in the implementation of strengthening culture-based character education at the elementary school of Muhammadiyah 8 Malang. This study used a type of qualitative research with a descriptive approach. As a source of data, the deputy head of the elementary school of Muhammadiyah 8 Malang, IC class teacher and scout extracurricular coach. This research was conducted on March 4 to March 14 2019. Data collection in this study by observation, interviews, and documentation. The research instruments used were observation sheets, interview guidelines, and documentation guidelines. There are four data analysis, namely: data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results showed that the implementation of character education strengthening consisted of (1) Routine activities consisting of congregational prayer activities, joint prayer activities, Literacy activities, One day one verse activities, (2) Spontaneous activities consisted of entertaining friends who were crying, washing their hands before eating , eat together, drink by sitting, (3) Exemplary activities consist of class pickets, line up before leaving the mosque and the class, Friday's clean, giving penalties for students who are late, giving point cards to students who violate. The results showed that the obstacles faced in implementing character of education strengthening were students and parents/guardians of students. Efforts to overcome these obstacles by communicating to parents/guardians of students.
