Abstract

Writing is a process in figuring out the meaning and putting the language into language. To be master in learning writing skill the students find several difficulties, for example about grammatical, looking for the interesting idea that appropriate with the theme, create a interesting tittle, arrange statement for make a paragraph, create a text that appropriate with the text organization and so on. This study was about identifying the student’s difficulties in writing narrative text of class X-C of Motorcycle Engineering at SMK PGRI 3 Malang and the solutions given by the teacher to the student’s difficulties in writing narrative text of Class X-C of Motorcycle Engineering at SMK PGRI 3. The design of this study was descriptive qualitative because the data in the form of words were composed in descriptive sentences and did not use statistical analysis on the data. The data were obtained from interview and document analysis. The result of the study showed that it there found attention problem included getting started on writing assignment and easy distractibility during writing tasks. To solve these difficulties, the teacher advised the student to choose a topic and then give an example by wrote a sentence which related to the topic on the board. Related to difficulty in spatial ordering problem, the students got difficulty arranging the paragraph in narrative text. The teacher’s solution was explaining to the students about generic structure of narrative text clearly. Related to difficulty in sequential ordering problem, the students got a problem in spelling omission. To solve the difficulty related to sequential ordering problem, the teacher advised the students to double check their assignment before submit it. Related to difficulty in memory problem, the students got difficulties in using capital word and punctuation. To solve the difficulty related to the memory problem, the teacher often asked the students to analyse a text which that text contains about the using capital word and punctuation. Related to difficulty in language problem, the students got difficulties in poor vocabulary and conventional grammar. To solve the student’s difficulty in poor vocabulary, the teacher often wrote several new words on the board and she asks the students to remember and memorize. To solve the students difficulty in grammar, the teacher usually discussed with the students about grammar mistake that often occur. Related to difficulty in higher-ordering cognition problem, the students got problems in developing main ideas and getting confuse to write a story. To solve the student’s problem in higher-ordering cognition problem, the teacher often gave some examples about how to develop main idea and continue write a main idea to the supporting sentences which appropriate to the main idea.
