Abstract

Leadership is the core in developing an institution. Educational institution could not be better without the competent leadership. The same thing is also need to developing an institution of higher education. And there is no any development if there no good leader and leadership. This reseach is created in other to describe the thoughts of a rector former in a big university in Indonesia, Abdul Malik Fadjar. Besides, this research it will be pattern of leadership to increase and developing an institution of higher education. This research uses phenomenological research with descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection’s methods of this research are dept interview with the informants, observation and documentation’s study. Meanwhile, the data analysis of this research are data reduction, data presentation and verification. The resultof this research are. 1. To describe Abdul Malik Fadjar’s Thoughts about education in University of Muhammadiyah Malang. Those thoughts are based on principle development, educational in higher education, educational purpose in forming of the leaders in the next future. 2. To describe leadership pattern of Abdul Malik Fadjar in developing University of Muhammadiyah Malang.
