Abstract

Adaptation is something that must be done to be able to survive and continue their educational goals. The purpose of this study is to study and explain the adaptation process of students from Kupang in Malang City. The formulation of the problem of this research is the socio-cultural adaptation strategy and obstacles carried out by Kupang students at the Kupang Regional Student Organization during their studies in Malang City. This study recommends to describe the process of adaptation of overseas students in the discussion of cultural vinegar by way of communication between East Java cultures with Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara. The study was approved to provide views on overseas students from Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara to be able to discuss the new environment encountered. The study was conducted in April 2019. The research was conducted at major universities in Malang City such as Brawijaya University Malang, UMM Malang, ABM Malang and ITN Malang. Data collection was carried out by observation and interviews with those who took part in the study. So as the guest speaker in this study the author chose four overseas students from Malang who were originally from Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, to obtain clearer information according to the needs of the author. The data obtained were analyzed using interactive data analysis of Miles and Huberman. These Research Results Change The Study System To Change Social Culture At The Time Of Students In Malang City. Barriers from the social environment experienced by Kupang students on campus to local residents and students from Java. Kupang, Kupang: 1) Students from Kupang University at Malang University; 2) Food Differences; 3) Differences in style of appearance; 4) homesick; 5) Stereotypes and differences; also 6) Language differences. The socio-cultural adaptation strategies carried out by Kupang students to survive in Malang City were accepted: (1) performing safety in terms of language and food. Kupang students use Indonesian and Regional languages to adjust to the other person. Kupang students, NTT take time outside of college activities to take part in organizational and SME activities on campus, futsal sports and traveling. (3) Instill motivation and positive attitude towards differences, free to look for style and discriminatory attitude ignored by Kupang students. The adaptation of Kupang students is carried out without the principles of others. The process of adaptation of intermediary students in cultural vinegar discussions in Malang City but can be done gently and calmly because local people are humble and open-minded.
