Abstract

Teachers should apply proper communication strategies for effective instruction based on national education goals. Research problem in this study is that what problems and solution of communication strategies employed by teachers to build students’ personality. Communication strategies should consist of implementation, support, and integrity strategies. This is qualitative (naturalistic) requiring descriptive analysis. Data sources are primary data from interview and secondary data from written sources. The sample are taken by using purposive sampling technique. The finding of this study is that teachers have employed proper communication strategies to build students’ personality by taking implementation, support and integrity strategies into account. The problems are that students are not active, and do not have intrinsic motivation. There is no new knowledge and no support for students’ need and interest and it is not related to their real life. It is contradictory to John Dewey thought on education. Another problem is that teachers do not apply influencing strategy by using IBQ Gary Yukl method namely inspiration appeals tactics, consultation tactics, pressure tactics, and legitimizing tactics. The solution is that teachers should apply and refer to main character values of national education which are students who are religious, have high nationalism, integrity, independence and cooperative.
