Abstract

The society generally uses Bilimbi leaves as traditional medicines such as cough lozenge, reduce fever, and rheumatoid medicine. Not only used as traditional medicine, Bilimbi leaves also can be used as natural preservatives. Bilimbi leaves contain compounds of flavonoids, tannins, and saponins which act as antibacterial. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of giving extract of Bilimbi leaves (Averrhoa blimbi L.) to the number of tilapia bacterial colonies (Oreochromis niloticus) in different storage periods as a source of learning biology. True Experimental Research and Factorial Designed are used in this experiment. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The concentrations of Bilimbi leaves extract used were, (5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25%) while the control treatment only used a shelf life of 10 hours, 12 hours, and 24 hours. The data analysis technique used in this study is Two Way ANOVA and Duncan Test with a probability of 5%. The results showed that there was an effect of giving various concentrations of Bilimbi leaves extract to the number of tilapia bacterial colonies. This shows a difference in the number of bacterial colonies in each treatment, where the control treatment obtained the highest number of bacterial colonies in 24-hour shelf life with an average value of bacterial colonies of 7.7 x 105 cfu/gr. While in the experimental treatment, the 5% concentration of the average number of bacterial colonies was 3.4 x 105 cfu/gr, the concentration of 10% the average number of bacterial colonies was 3.0 x 105 cfu/gr, the concentration of 15% the average number bacterial colonies of 2.7 x 105 cfu/gr, a concentration of 20% on average bacterial colonies of 3.1 x 105 cfu/gr, a concentration of 25% on average bacterial colonies of 1.7 x 105 cfu/gr. The results of this study can be used as a source of learning biology.
