Abstract

Background: The long duration of smartphone usage and the wrong position can cause Forward Head Posture (FHP). Forward Head Posture (FHP) happens when the position of the head is slightly ahead of the shoulder, which should normally at the middle position of the parallel shoulder to the external auditory meatus. Pain in the neck and upper back is a musculoskeletal complaint that is felt by FHP patients, including Physiotherapy department students. This research aims to determine the relation between duration and Forward Head Posture (FHP) position of smartphone users to upper trapezius muscle pain in Physiotherapy department students. Method: This research used an observational analytic design using cross sectional design. There were 60 students as respondents during the research. Taking respondent technique emphasized purposive sampling. Retrieval data employed questionnaires regarding to smartphone usage and NBM. Data analysis utilized the Spearman correlation test. Result: IKolmogorov Smirnov normality test and the Spearman correlation test obtained a significance value of 0.00 or less than 0.05 (p <0.05) which means that H0 is rejected, so it can be concluded that there is a relationship between the duration and the position of Forward Head Posture (FHP) against upper trapezius muscle pain in Physiotherapy department students.
