Abstract

Background: Ascaridia galli is an intestinal worm that attacks birds. In humans causes Visceral Larvae Migran, with clinical symptoms of abdominal pain, fever cough, skin irritation, allergies and shortness of breath. Aloe vera leaf extract contains saponin compounds, flavonoids and tannins thought to be anthelmintic. Objective: To know the effectiveness of Aloe vera leaf extract as anthelmintic against Ascaridia galli worms compared to piperazine citrate. Methods: This was true experimental post-test only control group design. nine groups were made, each consisting of four Ascaridia galli worms and repeated three times. The concentration of Aloe vera leaf extract used were 1% g / ml, 2% g / ml, 4% g / ml, 6% g / ml, 8% g / ml, 10% g / ml, 12% g / ml with negative control of 0.9% NaCl and positive control of piperazin citrate 4%. Results and Discussion: Data was analysed using Kruskal Wallis found a significant difference in the number of worm deaths per treatment (P <0.05). Post Hoc Mann Whitney showed a anthelmintic effect at a concentration of 12% g / ml stronger than 4% piperazin citrate. Descriptive test using probit analysis obtained LC50 at a concentration of 5.436% g / ml LT50 in 488.809 minutes. LC99 was obtained at a concentration of 8.890% g / ml with LT99 in 948,234 minutes. Aloe vera leaf extract can cause worm death because it contains saponins, flavonoids and tannins that function as anthelmintics. Conclusion: Aloe vera leaf extract has anthelmintic effectiveness on Ascaridia galli worms which is more effective than piperazin citrate.
