Abstract

Background: Acne vulgaris is skin diseases that trouble teenagers caused by Propionibacterium acnes. White tea contains alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, EGCG (epigallocatechin-3-gallate) and saponin as antibacterial properties on tea, because it had an antibacterial agent, white tea can be an alternative to decrease growth bacteri Propionibacterium acne. Objective: To know that white tea extract (Camellia sinensis) package have an effect on the growth of Propionibacterium acne. Method: True experimental with Post-test Only Control Group Design. Concentration of white tea extract (Camellia sinensis) was 13%,11%,9%,7%,5%,3%,1% to determine Minimum Inhibitory Concentration and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration. The data were analyzed using One way ANOVA test and Post Hoc Games-Howell test. Results and Discussion: The value of MIC was showed in a concentration 1% and value of MBC was showed in a concentration. The results of the analysis found data included is normal p>0.05 and not homogeneous sig>0.05. The results of One way ANOVA test (p=0.000 <0.05) showed a significant difference between treatments. Post hoc test results obtained significant differences (p<0.05) between treatment groups at concentrations of 1%,3%,5%,7%,9%,11%,13% with the control group. The results of the Post Hoc Games-Howell test obtained that a concentration of 1% has affected the growth of Propionibacterium acnes. Conclusion: White tea extract (Camellia sinensis) package has an effect on the growth of Propionibacterium acnes .
