Abstract

This study aims to determine and analyze mathematics learning that is appropriate at the Open Junior High School. This research uses qualitative research, primary data is collected using open interviews and secondary data is collected using documentation, with informants from school principals, community teachers, tutors and students. This study uses qualitative analysis with an interactive model to find out the problems faced and find solutions to solve problems based on concepts and theories. This study found that mathematics learning at Open Junior High School was composed of three stages, namely preparation, learning activities and assessment of learning outcomes. Lesson plans are made according to established guidelines with problem-based and task-based implementation. The results achieved with the category of "very good" and "good" are still not achieved according to the targets set. The dominant score obtained by students is the category of "enough" and there still came out scores with the criteria of "less". The problems found were students' interest and motivation are still low towards mathematics, mathematics time or hours is shorter when compared to regular junior high school and the socio-economic conditions of the students’ family and environment as well as lesson plans are taken from other schools. So, learning activities need to be developed in a unique or interesting way in order not getting bored, develops problem and task-based learning method, and be able to implement inquiry, cooperative and participatory-based method. And no less important is to foster relationships and cooperation with guardians of students and outsiders who have a significant role in achieving the goals of education at school
