Abstract

Food is anything that can be consumed by humans to be used as an energy source. Basically, food itself has an important role for the human body, can function as a source of energy for the body, if someone does not eat it can cause the body to become weak and look like they do not have the energy to move. In addition, food also has many colors, shapes and flavors. When viewed in terms of color, there are two kinds of basic ingredients that can make this food interesting to buy or even to consume, these two basic ingredients are natural dyes derived from natural ingredients available in nature, such as pandan leaves that can make This food is green, turmeric can make food yellow, and tomatoes can make this food red. In addition to natural dyes, there are also synthetic dyes derived from chemicals. This study aims to determine the results of the analysis of Sunset yellow content found in 6 jelly brands in the large market of Malang City using paper chromatography. Chromatography method is a separator method based on the distance traveled by a compound which can be calculated by the formula R_f then compared to the distance traveled by the solvent of the compound. The results of the study using this paper chromatography method that uses 6 brands of jelly such as nutrijel, special ingredients premix, inaco, kosena kidz, nevy jelly, and top jelly can produce data that contains jelly with nutrijel brand, ingredients premix, and this contains sunset coloring yellow, where is for kosena kidz, nevy jelly and top bubble cosmetics do not contain sunset yellow coloring.
