Abstract
In accordance with the objectives of national education that have been stated, the government also regulates the quality of learning in schools to be developed by actively involving students to be able to develop their abilities to be creative and independent. The teachersshould be responsible for the quality of planning student learning activities so that students are able to develop their skills and potential. On the other hand Permendikbud No. 65 of 2013 states that in Process Standards, student independence in learning becomes an important matter. Based on information from class teachers at SD Muhammadiyah 1 Lekok explained that the fact is that students do not yet fully have the value of independence, especially students in grade I. Therefore there is a need for further studies to find out the ability of students of Class I SD Muhammadiyah 1 Lekok in mastering thematic learning material independently which were then analyzed using qualitative research methods. The results showed that students were able to master thematic learning material independently. Although in practice students need more massive media in teaching and learning process as a facilitation to increase learning independence of students at SD Muhammadiyah 1 Lekok.
