Abstract

This study was conducted to find out: (1) Improvement of Learning Motivation by VIII A class students of Tahfidz Al'Mansyurin Malang and (2) Improvement of Learning Outcomes by VIII A class students of Tahfidz Al'Mansyurin Malang through the application of the Jigsaw model and type of cooperative learning to basic reading comprehension competencies. This study is a Classroom Action Research conducted using 1 cycle. The subjects in this study were 30 students of eighth grade in Tahfidz Al 'Mansyurin Middle School Malang. This research used Data collection techniques with Observation Participation and post-test for Student Learning Motivation, and Student Learning Outcomes with Learning Outcomes Test. Qualitative data analysis technique. The data analysis technique includes the data in the form of observation sheet and questionnaire. By using jigsaw techniques, learning process is more effective with the fact there is an increase in student’s grades. The score before using the jigsaw technique was 40% of students or 12 students graduated in English subjects and after using the jigsaw learning technique there was an increase in student grades and 82% of students or 27 students are above the average score (KKM), with score standards (KKM) 72. Detail in the data may conclude there is a significant increase in student’s reading skills with only using one cycle.
