Abstract

The need for preparations in the laboratory urges the provision of high-quality preparations both from the materials and colorants used. There are several types of preparations according to durability and how to make them, for example temporary preparations, preservative preparations, whole preparations, smear preparations, squash preparations and section preparations or slice. Animal section preparations and plant section preparations. Dyes can directly show different parts of the cell organelles and tissues in a plant organ. The colors we know are 2 namely artificial (synthetic) dyes and natural dyes. Indonesia has many plants that can produce dyes and have not been explored much. Natural dyes can be used as an alternative to synthetic dyes. One of the natural dyes available in nature by utilizing areca tannins as natural dyes. Tannin coloring can be found everyday for example in tea, gambier and areca nut. This dye is obtained from the extraction process of areca nut. Plant is composed of natural polyphenols. The advantages of tannin as a natural colorant are resistant to degradation, can protect proteins, termites and fungi. Anova test results showed that there was no difference in clarity and contrast of root and stem preparations, but there were differences in leaves, namely there was no difference in the preparation in the preparation but there was a difference in contrast by administering some concentrations of areca extract.
