Abstract

Translation Shift in Stories of Leadership For Kids – Aku Pemimpin Hebat By Arleen A. Abstract Learning different languages and cultures is a trend. By now schools even start using and learning many other languages and cultures since elementary school. The study examine a translation which does not only translate from Source Language (SL) to Target Language (TL) but also convey a meaning that can be accepted by TL. The problems created are (1)What kind of category shifts found in the Stories of Leadership for Kids – Aku Pemimpin Hebat By Arleen A? (2) What are the most dominant category shifts found in the Stories of Leadership for Kids – Aku Pemimpin Hebat By Arleen A. ? The researcher used qualitative research as the design. The researcher analyzes the translation shifts in Stories of Leadership for Kids- Aku Pemimpin Hebat by ArleenA, then the researcher describes it. The researcher used the data from bilingual text in a book stories Stories of Leadership for Kids- Aku Pemimpin Hebat and then the text which is written by Arleen A. The researcher used the source and target text to find translation shift in the book stories. To avoid data redundant the researcher focus on one story in a book Stories of Leadership for Kids- Aku Pemimpin Hebat. The research findings in the previous chapter, several categories shift found in ST and TT of text in “Stories of Leadership-Aku Pemimpin Hebat” by Arleen A. There are 20 sentences that indicate structure shift, 4 words that indicate class shift, 10 sentences that indicate unit shift and 10 sentences that indicate intra-system shift. This study is supposed to be helpful resource in teaching studies especially when dealing with categories shift used in bilingual books and to enrich English students’ vocabulary and raise their awarness of categories shifts in bilingual books.
