Abstract

Improving biology learning activities requires good teaching materials which can activate a variety of skills. However, teaching materials that develop use less scientific and laboratory-based approaches. The aim of this research is to produce a textbook of additive and addictive substances material with laboratory-based scientific approach and analyze its validity and effectiveness. This type of development research apply the Borg and Gall development model modified by Sugiyono (2015) which consists of 10 steps. The subjects of trial of the teaching material are media and material experts. Meanwhile, the product trial uses a limited test with a sample of 15 students of class VIII of SMP Negeri 1 Kokop, Bangkalan Regency. The result of this research shows that expert’s product validation declares valid and very good. At the same time, the result of the trial of student responses toward the use of the textbook has an average value of 89.13% and learning outcomes increase by 87%. Therefore, the developed textbook is very feasible to be used in the learning process.
