Abstract

The development of technology and industry produces a variety of useful products, so that improvements can be felt for human life. Another effect is the presence of products that are not useful, in the form of waste that tends to pollute the environment, because it contains heavy metals. Based on the source, heavy metals can come from a variety of industrial wastes including the textile industry, plywood factories, paper and tires, mining activities, while non-industrial waste comes from the disposal of household activities and the remaining oil from ships. The purpose of this study was to determine the heavy metal content of red tilapia (Oreochromis sp) in floating net cages in the Mahakam river. This study conducted sampling at 3 stations, which were determined based on the large number of floating net cages in the area. The results of the analysis of Cadmium heavy metal content of stations 2 and 3 exceeded the quality standard threshold and the lead heavy metal content at station 3 has exceeded the quality standard set by the East Kalimantan Province Regulation No 02 of 2011, while the iron heavy metal content in 3 stations has exceeded the threshold quality standards that have been set by the Directorate of Nutrition of the Republic of Indonesia Department of 1967. The results of this study are in the form of scientific processes and products that are proven to be appropriate and have potential as sources of learning biology.
