Abstract

This research discusses about the efforts of Islamic education teachers in maintaining tolerance. Religious education can make the creation of religious harmony, but if a teacher has a narrow mind and the contents conveyed are exclusive and divisive then diversity in Indonesia will never be realized. A teacher is required not only to teach in class, but also must understand the condition of students, the environment, culture, customs etc. This research uses the theory of negative prejudice, theory of the H Bahari. In that theory the attitudes of intolerance arises from what is thought, felt and done by someone who is different from himself, one of which is due to the negative prejudice. Assumptions obtained from Islamic religious educations teachers were rejected because they forbid students to carry out traditional rituals. This research is a qualitative type of research that uses data analysis methods in processing data. Data collection techniques from this study were observation, interviews and documentation. The analysis technique uses the Miles and Huberman model by reducing data, data presentation and verification. An effort to maintain tolerance, the approach taken by Ms. Nur Hamidah, namely the approach to students and guardians of students. Provide attractive performances to make happy and acceptable. Give a breakthrough to the community in carrying out traditional rituals. Providing Islamic teachings to the community. The effort of Islamic religious education teachers is to maintain tradition. Tradition is a harmony, by preserving tradition is the same as maintaining harmony. Existing customs are not removed but colored, the context is sought, the basis of a custom. Form of tolerance by allowing customs, maintaining tolerance by coloring culture with Islam.
