Abstract

Maize is an important comodity for human being and animals. The problem of maize cultivation is the infection of fungi such as Fusarium sp, Phytium, Rizoctonia and nematode on seedling stage. (Jun-Ang et. al. 2009). Seed coating on plants can be an effort to prevent disease attacks, maintain the quality and vigor of corn seeds through the use of natural ingredients, such as chitosan, lamtoro and betel nut. This study aims was to determine the effectiveness of the combination of seed coating materials from vegetable fungicides based on chitosan, lamtoro extract and betel on the viability of corn seeds and the intensity of fungi during the storage period. This research used complete ramdomized design with 8 treatment. All combination were replicated 3 times. The variables observed were vigor index, germination rate, maximum growth potential and intensity of fungal attack. The result of this research showed that chitosan 1%+ betel 1%+ leucanea 1% (V4) were the best treatment based on germination rate, vigour index, maximum growth potency and intensity of fungal attack, and also extend the seed storage to 4 week longer than the negative control.
