Novel is one of interesting literary works that is to read and analyze. The readers not only read but also get the lesson or experiences from the novel. That is the reason why the writer of this thesis is interested to analyze novel “TottoChan The Little Girl at The Window” written by Tetsuko Kuroyanagi. The research purposes were to know what teaching strategy is used by the headmaster in “TottoChan The Little Girl at The Window” novel by Tetsuko Kuroyanagi, and what is the effect of implementing the teaching strategy on the students in “TottoChan The Little Girl at The Window” novel by Tetsuko Kuroyanagi. This study used descriptive qualitative research. The object of the study was the teaching strategy in a novel entittled “TottoChan The Little Girl At The Window” written by Tetsuko Kuroyanagi. The research data were taken from paragraphs, dialogues and events in the novel. The writer found the teaching strategy used by the headmaster is inquiry strategy, with two activities: field trip and project were used by the headmaster of Tomoe Gakuen School. Therefore, the students love their school because the headmaster and teachers always have something different. In their school, they are learning by doing. Based on the findings, teaching strategy is very important in teaching activity. By teaching strategy the teacher can handle the classroom; the teacher can use an inquiry strategy in order to make students interested in the subject, and also make them enjoy the activity in the classroom.
