Abstract

Indonesian people usually consume various types of food ingredients such as animal food and vegetable food ingredients. The pattern of community food consumption consists of the diversity of foodstuffs, the amount of foodstuffs, besides that other factors that influence are the condition of the community, the location of the area, the potential of the residential area and the internal conditions of the community. Increased need for clean water makes seawater feasible to use as an alternative source. High concentration of salinity (Total Dissolved Solid, TDS) requires processing technology that is able to separate dissolved materials. Desalination technology aims to separate contaminants in seawater such as solid particles, turbidity, cysts, bacteria, viruses, colors, organic compounds, and dissolved solids. This research was conducted with the aim to determine the growth response of mustard plants to desalination of sea water using the floating raft hydroponic system. in May to June 2019 and located in Jetis Village, Gang Baru no. 17, Dau District, Malang. The experiment was conducted using a Simple Randomized Block Design (RCBD) consisting of a total combination of treatments, 8 treatments with 3 replications. Each experimental unit consisted of 4 sample plants so that overall there were 96 plants. Plant height (cm), number of leaves (strands), leaf area (cm2), leaf chlorophyll (mg / g), stem diameter (mm), root length (cm), plant fresh weight (gram), plant dry weight (gram ), TDS (ppm), pH, water temperature of the hydroponic media (° C), EC water of the hydroponic media (mS / cm). The results showed that the zeolite treatment which was activated with H2SO4 1.5 N showed better results than the other treatments on all observed variables.
