Abstract

it located in Central Borneo. This plant is used as a healing medicine for various diseases. The Eleutherine palmifolia Merr. bulbs are used to overcome the negative effect that caused by synthetic anti-fungal medicine; thus, it needs to be conducted an exploration of the ant-fungal medicine which is natural. This plant is often used as the medicine to heal a disease because the plant does not have adverse effect. Phytochemical compounds that suspected to has an ability as anti-fungal were alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, triterpenoids and steroids. This research aimed at discovering the activities of anti-fungal and also to find out the concentration sizes that was effective in Dayak onion bulbs extract (Eleutherine palmifolia Merr.) toward the Pityrosporum ovale fungus which caused seborrheic Dermatitis. This research used quantitative approach and the type of research was true experimental research. The sample used in this research was Pityrosporum ovale fungus which could be obtained from University of Sumatera Utara-Medan. Simple Random Sampling was used as the sample collection technique, in which it used the concentrations of 30%, 45%, 60%, 75%, and 90%. Moreover, it also used the treatments of ketoconazole as (control +) and tween 20 as (control -). The results of this research indicated that the biggest inhibition zone diameter was in the treatment that used 90% of concentration of Dayak onion bulb extract (Elutherine palmifolia Merr.), of which treatment obtained the average of inhibition zone diameter as many as 19,27 mm. While the smallest inhibition zone diameter was in the control treatment using tween 20 with the extract concentration of 0%, in which it obtained the average of 0,00 mm where there was no clear zone around the paper disk. The concentration of 90% had the best influence in inhibiting the growth of Pityrosporum ovale fungus which caused the seborrheic dermatitis. This research results can be used as the learning sources, especially in the form of poster.
