Abstract

This study aims to determine the constraints and challenges that exist in family-based childcare programs. Family-based care is care that involves parents as the main caregivers in raising children. The research method used in this study is a qualitative one with a case study type of research at LKSA Muhammadiyah Malang city and two LKSA staff as informants for this study. We chose LKSA Muhammadiyah Malang because the institution is one of the oldest orphanages in the city. Malang and the orphanage are one of the anti-hospital referral models in orphanages. But for now, Iksa is still preparing for treatment outside the hostel. The Muhammadiyah Malang Orphanage has provided outside care since 1932, when the orphanage was first established, until the 90s but stopped in the 2000s and focused only on boarding care. The results of the research, namely the processing of primary data in the form of interviews, revealed that there were two dominant problems underlying the obstacles in implementing family-based care, namely internal and external problems. The results of this study contributed to answering the existing questions. The limitation of this research is that the data used is still limited to the type of primary data, namely interviews. Further research needs to use secondary and primary data, namely observation and survey data.
