Abstract

Azolla pinnata besides being used as an organic fertilizer, a source of animal protein, it can also be used as a protein source for human. Unfortunately, the additional of the optimum protein composition is still unknown, so it is needed to study the additional of various concentrations. The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of Azolla pinnata plant extract on body weight of white rat (Rattus norvegicus). The type of this research was a true experiment with a posttest group design research design. The number of samples in this study were 24 white rats with four treatments, namely the concentrations of extract of Azolla pinnata of 0%, 2%, 5%, and 8%, with six replications. The data obtained were then analyzed using One-Way ANOVA and continued with Duncan test. The result showed that there was a significant effect of Azolla pinnata extract 8% on body weight of white rat in which the probability value was 0.047. The conclusion of this research is that the administration of Azolla pinnata extract can reduce the body weight of white rat. Based on the research result it is recommended to add high-calorie feed, such as rice, so that the white rat glucose level is fulfilled and the protein intake can be used to increase the weight of white rat (Rattus norvegicus).
