Abstract

Childhood could be said as the most important era in building self-confidence, where child faced critical phases to learn something. One factor influenced study achievement in children is self-confidence, since child, especially child with physical defect needs self-confidence to think positively about their potential and strength in order to optimize their talent and achievement. That s why the research aimed to find out relation between self-confidence with study achievement in physical defect child. The research was correlational quantitative. Population in this research were physical defect children schooled in SDLB Bhakti Luhur of Malang, while the samples were physical defect children who educated in grade III, IV, V, VI. Sampling technique used purposive sampling. Data collection technique used one scale, that was self-confidence scale, consisted of 30 items and used study report to see student s achievement. Data collection was done in 15-18 October 2010. Data analysis method was product moment correlation supported by SPSS 13.0 for Windows. The research showed that there was positive and significant relation between self-confidence with study achievement at physical defect children with correlation coefficient value (r) = 0.421 and mistake probability (p) < 0.015. It means, higher the self confidence, there also higher the self-achievement of physical defect child. In the contrary, lower the self-confidence, there would be lower the study achievement. Here, there could be concluded that the research hypothesis was accepted. Self-confidence variable in research gave effective contribution 17.7% to study achievement which means there was 82.3% other factors influenced study achievement of physical defect child.
