Abstract

This study aims to determine the economic sectors with the potential to be developed as supporting economic growth in the City Balikapapan. The data is retrived from BPS, manly focusing on GDP of East Kalimantan and Balikpapan City from 2013 until 2017. The analytical methods are Static Location Quotient (SLQ), Dynamic Location Quotient (DLQ), shift share, Klassen Typology The results of SLQ and DLQ, which is the leading sector, the financial and insurance services sector, transportation and warehousing, while the non-leading sectors are the mining and quarrying sector and the manufacturing sector. The results of Shift-Share analysis, which includes the leading sectors, are the Processing Industry, while the non-superior sectors are the government administration, defense and social security sectors. The analysis of the Klassen typology, which includes rapid progress and rapid growth, is the construction sector, while the fast-forward but depressed sector, namely the processing industry sector, mandatory defense and social security and potential sectors are mining and excavation.
