Abstract

Self presentation is a desire or action to present themselves, both for the audience and themselves in an ideal appearance picture. Self presentations are generally done through social media, especially on the instastory feature on Instagram. Public figures such as artists or celebrities are generally actors of self presentation, because as a person who becomes a public interest, they are required to always present good impressions in public. Rachel Vennya is one of the many celebrities who often do self presentation through their instastory. This study aims to determine the perception of Rachel Vennya's followers about the self presentation that is often displayed through instastory. This study uses a qualitative approach, with descriptive research types. The subject of his research was Rachel Vennya's followers who were active students of the 2014 UMM Communication Sciences. Data analysis techniques used interactive models from Miles and Huberman (Data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions) using triangulation as a way to test the validity of the data. The results of this study indicate that the perception of followers towards Rachel Vennya's self presentation in the instastory feature on Instagram is that most of it leads to positive things from various sides displayed, such as the appearance of being a wife, as a friend in her social life, as a businesswoman, etc. But there are also differences in perceptions of good and bad related to Rachel's self presentation in her appearance as a mother, endorser worker, and her real life behind the scenes of instastory.
