One of mass media that mostly used by the people is newspaper. The development of mass media was started by press (which is generally known as mass media, and paticularly know as newspaper) then develop widely followed by radio, television, film and internet. In Indonesia, the mass media itself has been developing rapidly since the falling of New Orde and changing into the reformation era. The more important thing is when we talk about the closest media, which is mass media. Mass media has a very important duty in transferring culture, not to keep aside the education values. Newspaper is a media that has closer proximity with the locals. Newspaper represents the locals values and also carrying duty and big responsibility in creating new cultures and education for local society. Memo Arema is one of local newspaper in Malang that has been adored by the people in Malang. With its sales reaching 31.000 newspaper a day, Memo Arema has the media duty to serve informations which is not only entertaining,but also has a positive value of education in forming culture. If we see who are the readers,mostly they come from society of middle-down level, with the average of education level of High School. Memo arema surely gives a big contribution in the culture understanding, especially gender. Gender is a part that not seperated from humans daily life. Gender could be something that leads every human’s action. Memo Arema is one of newspaper in Malang that is well consumed by mostly people in Malang. This reseach questions about How is the Gender Sensitivity in Memo Arema in Bisnis & Hiburan of May 2-31 2008 Edition. This reseach questions about How is the Gender Sensitivity in Memo Arema in Bisnis & Hiburan of May 2-31 2008 Edition. The purpose of this research is to know the Gender Sensitivity in Memo Arema in Bisnis & Hiburan of May 2-31 2008 Edition. The type of discourse analysis used in this research is Sara Mills that use the Althusser that specialize more on how an actor is described in the text. This position is seen as a form of a party as a subject and another party as the object of interpretation. Generally, there are two important things in this analysis. First, how a social actor is positioned in that news. Who is the party which is positioned as the interpretator inside the text to give meaning to a something.and what is the result. Second, is how the readers are being positioned in the text. The result of this research is that the gender sensitivity is low, and it could be seen from the low understanding of gender, gender gap, causal factor, and the wisdom to decrease the gender gap. The business and entertainment discourse in this newspaper is one of the most effective profit machine, that apparantly is too far get into the unfairness of gender sensitivity, especially for women. When the expression of Hiburan & Bisnis in this newspaper mostly use woman as decoration with all those description, which never too far away from the meaning of the womanly stereotipe exploitation, then it means women as a human being are being parted away from their honor, and their existence are being neglected. In this case, woman are just the object which is weakly become the victim. That is why, it is something very important to create a new construction of awareness together, that try to give a lear meaning of gender ideology in the economic era, so we can dig more alternative and collective reaction to those gender ideology realities.
