Abstract

In fact that the connection skills of grade III students at SDN Mojolangu 5 Malang are still lacking in understanding the concept of fractions taught by the teacher, teachers usually directly teach numbers or symbolic recognition but students depend on images without knowing the concepts. When students are given story problems, students tend to focus on how to solve these problems without connecting their benefits to life. This study aims to determine how the influence of the application of the Bruner theory to the connection ability of third grade students in fractional material at SDN Mojolangu 5 Malang. This research uses quantitative research and experimental research types. The design of this study was to use a pre-experiment design in the form of one group pretest-posttest design. The population in this study were all students of class III SDN Mojolangu 5 Malang. The sample in this study was class III students with a total of 23 students consisting of 13 male students and 10 female students. Data collection techniques using test techniques that are pre-test and post-test with question instruments. This study uses the application of Bruner's theory in fraction material as an independent variable. The research results obtained an average pre-test results of 74.82, while the average post-test results of 87.47. Through the Paired sample t-test, a sig (2-tail) of 0,000 was obtained and through the significance test a probability of 0,000 <0.05 Ho was rejected. The conclusion of this study is that there is an influence of Bruner's theory on the connection ability of third grade students in fractional material at SDN Mojolangu 5 Malang. Based on the results of this study, Bruner's theory is recommended to be applied to learning especially mathematics. The theory that has three stages is proven to increase the ability of students' connections, namely students can connect mathematics with daily life, mathematics with other disciplines, and fraction material with other material.
