Abstract
This research aimed at analyzing the mathematical written communication and problem-solving abilities through Realistic Mathematics Approach. This research emphasized on the learning process that not only transferred a knowledge but also the students were given a chance to get an experience by implementing the knowledge that owned by the students through the props. The kind of research was descriptive qualitative, in which the subjects were the students of 7th grade at Junior High School (SMP) of 8 Muhammadiyah Batu, in the second semester of the academic year of 2018/2019. The number of samples used were 5 students. The data collection method of this research used test instrument. Departing from the data analysis results, it could be concluded that the learning process using Realistic Mathematics Approach was able to help the students in concretizing the comprehension about the material of gross, net and tare, while the written mathematical communication and problem-solving abilities had been able to meet the indicators of written communication aspects and the problem-solving even though it was not fully meeting the indicators (there were still several indicators that not met yet).
