Abstract

English literature is essential to our cultural heritage because it gives us a unique world perspective. Figurative language enables readers to connect with the story and its characters on a deeper level, adding depth and complexity to the text. Therefore, it is crucial to understand and appreciate figurative language to appreciate the richness and beauty of literature fully.​
The researcher analyzed the figurative language used in five songs of Doo-Wops and Hooligans by Bruno Mars. This study aimed to determine the types of figurative language that are in the five songs Doo-Wops and Hooligans by Bruno Mars and their connotative meaning.
The research design used was document analysis in qualitative research, which involves collecting data for analysis and then interpreting the results of the analysis. The qualitative analysis in this research was carried out to analyze the data from the lyrics. The data taken from classifying and understanding the lyrics of the song under investigation was then interpreted and assisted by the researcher in terms of data validation. Then, the researcher found the results of the figurative language metaphor and interpretation of Bruno Mars's song.
​In this research, the writer found five types of figurative language used in the Doo-Wops and Hooligans album by Bruno Mars such as simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole, and irony. From the second statement problem, the connotative meaning of the figurative language used in the Doo-Wops and Hooligans album by Bruno Mars tells about the sincerity of love, sacrifice, and admiration of someone he loved.
