Abstract

In reality, at Tlekung 02 Batu Public Elementary School, they have developed character values both in learning in the classroom and outside the classroom, namely extracurricular. One extracurricular who develops character values is extracurricular karate. Thus this study aims to find out and understand about: (1) Character values that can be developed through karate extracurricular activities at Tlekung 02 Batu Public Elementary School. (2) Strategy for developing character values through karate extracurricular activities at Tlekung 02 Batu Public Elementary School (3) inhibiting the development of character values through karate extracurricular activities at Tlekung 02 Batu Public Elementary School. This study used qualitative research and the type of research used was descriptive, as a source of data, selected students who participated in karate extracurricular activities, amounting to 38 students. This research was conducted in Tlekung 02 Batu Public Elementary School and carried out in two stages, namely the pre-research stage and the research stage. The pre-research stage is carried out through interviews with karate trainers, while the research phase is carried out using several data collection techniques, namel: (1) observation of character values in karate extracurricular activities, (2) interviews with several informants, namely principals and karate trainers, (3) questionnaires were given to all students who participated in karate extracurricular activities, and (4) documentation. The results showed (1) students who took karate extracurricular activities at Tlekung 02 Batu Public Elementary School had values of Religious, Nationalist, Independent, Mutual Cooperation, and Integrity. (2) The strategy used to develop character values is a syllabus specifically designed for training extracurricular activities at Tlekung 02 Batu Public Elementary School, motivation from karate trainers, and karate activities starting from the beginning to the end. (3) Factors inhibiting the development of character values through karate extracurricular activities in Tlekung 02 Public Elementary School is include rainy weather, and the different academic and emotional abilities of students so the trainer must be patient, enthusiastic and find solutions so that the karate extracurricular training activities can run smoothly.
