Abstract

The Indonesian nation is a large and multicultural nation, therefore Pancasila with the motto of Unity in Diversity is used as the basis of the State. However, the refusal of the State Base by some educated people and the desire to change the state's order to become khilafah by several Islamic thinkers, proves that this nation has experienced a decline in the character of the spirit of nationality and love of the homeland. High education without being accompanied by high character / moral education will backfire itself which will threaten the integrity of the NKRI. Islamic boarding schools are the main choice of the Indonesian people in realizing Islamic character-based national character education. The purpose of this study was to find out the purpose, design, implementation and results of character education in the spirit of nationalism and love for the homeland that was applied in Darun Najah Islamic Boarding School. This study uses descriptive qualitative research methods and their types include case studies. The object of the research was the students of the Darun Najah Islamic Boarding School in Malang. Data collection techniques are carried out through observation, interviews and documentation. The data obtained are then analyzed by reducing, presented and concluded. The results of the study show that: 1) Character education held at Darun Najah Islamic Boarding School aims to foster students or santri to become accustomed to the morality in all words, attitudes and actions. 2) The character education design in Darun Najah Islamic Boarding School is integrated into the education curriculum, order and continuous schedule of activities. 3) In addition to the curriculum, there are also rules and schedules of activities as a foundation and guideline in the implementation of character education in the spirit of nationalism and love for the motherland. 4) The results of character education in Darun Najah Islamic Boarding School can be found through several indicators, namely: a) The lives of students before and after boarding. b) Background of mentors, assistants, and Asatidz, c) Students' achievements both in the fields of science, talent and arts, as well as skills, d) Charts of santri acceptance each year, and d) Role of Alumni in the surrounding community.
