Abstract

Young adult who just move from high school may face challenges as university students. It is important to them to have self efficacy so they can face college live as well. ELED students who is teacher in the future need to have a good speaking skill to facilitate the students in understanding the material. This research aims to find out The Correlation between Students’ Academic Self-efficacy and Speaking Mastery on ELED Students University of Muhammadiyah Malang. The research method used in this research is quantitative research design. The population of ELED freshman is 214 students, 50 participants chosen through purposive sampling method. To collect the data, the researcher used questionnaire to find out self-efficacy scores and score record of final speaking 1 class to find out students’ speaking mastery. The researcher used Pearson product moment correlation coefficient to find out the correlation result. The result of this research shows the r count is 0.170 and r table is 0.2787. Thus, r count is less than r table (0.170< 0.2787) which means there is no correlation between the two variables. The correlation is considered as very low correlation because r count (0.170) is between 0.000 and 0.200. Therefore, the null hypothesis (Ho) is accepted and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) rejected. The result of this research explained that there is no significant correlation between students’ self-efficacy towards their speaking mastery on ELED students of University of Muhammadiyah Malang in academic year 2018/2019.
