Abstract

Vocabulary holds an important component in learning a foreign language, especially in learning English as by learning vocabulary, the opportunity to learn and communicate in English will be faster and easier. Visual-verb was determined by the quality of the use of visual media departing from the circumstance and needs of students. This research implemented descriptive qualitative research since the data is taken from observation and interview, and described in the form of words. The subjects in this research are the teacher and students in fourth grade of SDN Polehan 5 Malang. The subjects are taken considering the use of visual verb in the teaching and learning process of the English subject. The process of the data collection was conducted by using two observations to the process of pre-teaching, whils-teaching, and post-teaching learning activity between the teacher and students on 17th and 20th of June 2019. The result of observation was analyzed based on the observation checklists and field notes on the observations to answer the first research question. Then, the result of the analysis on observation was supported by the result of analysis of the transcribed interview to five students as the representatives on how the students’ response towards the implementation of visual-verb to answer the second research question. The result of the research found showed the teacher implemented of visual-verb conducted by the teacher by doing the activities using story book and flashcard to teach daily verb on the pre-, whilst- and post-activity, shows the result that the students can mention the daily verb in students’ daily activities sequence. The students' responses in learning conducted by using visual-verb in learning English vocabulary. The students’ responses during the learning process showed that the students were attracted to the flashcard, commented on the picture, and can express the verb. Using visual-verb in teaching and learning process can make the class more active and conducive.
