Abstract

This research focused on the students who have passed speaking I-IV at English Language Eeducation Department in University of Muhammadiyah Malang. The purpose of this research is to (1) find out what where the students difficulties speaking English outside the classroom and (2) how the students cope with those difficulties. On this research, descriptive qualitative was chosen by researcher because the researcher wanted to investigate the phenomenon in its natural setting. The subjects of this research were students at eight semester in English Language Education Department in University of Muhammadiyah Malang, because the students who has passed speaking I-IV supposed to be have capability to speak English well. The finding of this research revealed that students had difficulty in speaking, namely: pause, filler, mental problem, mispronunciation, grammatical eror, and poor vocabulary. Although the students were aware of their weakneses of their speaking, the students still had lack of motivation to learn more about speaking, because the students think it was not important as long as the students already passed all speaking subjects in English Language Education Department in University of Muhammadiyah malang. The students need more practicing their speaking to reduce those difficulties above, and more confident while speaking in front of audience. Moreover speaking skills can be advantages in international business.
