Abstract

This study was conducted in order to improve students writing ability by using PIE strategy in descriptive text. PIE strategy is strategy that requires students to make point from the topic, illustrate, and then explain the point. This research applied Classroom Action Research which consists of two cycles. Each cycle was conducted in two meetings. The subject of this research was 26 students of class VIII B in SMP 06 Muhammadiyah Dau in the academic year of 2018/2019. To get the data writing test and observation were used in this research. The result of the research showed the improvement of students writing in descriptive text. Point, Illustration, and Explanation strategy help the students to develop their ideas and write descriptive text easily. The improvement can be seen from the students’ test score in each cycle. In cycle one, the mean of students test was 75,38 and 81,73 in cycle two. Based on the score, it can be concluded that this strategy can improve writing ability of the students, especially in descriptive text.
