Abstract

Background: Preeclampsia is disorder of pregnancy with characterised by new-onset hypertension with systolic blood pressure ≥ 140 mmHg or diastolic blood pressure ≥ 90 mmHg, and proteinuria of > 0.3 g per 24 hours or ≥ 1+ proteinuria, detected by urine dipstick after 20 weeks of pregnancy. Magnesium Sulfate is an anticonvulsant used to reduce the risk of developing preeclampsia towards eclampsia. Magnesium Sulfate (MgSO4) is shown to be the drug of choice in the management of severe preeclampsia as seizure prophylaxis. The mecanishm of Magnesium Sulfate is reduce acetylcholine levels and blocks N-methyl-daspartic acid (NMDA) receptors in the central nervous system, which causes smooth muscle relaxation and reduces muscle contraction and can also reduce neuron stimulation and spasms. Objective: Know the pattern of Magnesium Sulfate in preeclampsia patients at Sidoarjo General Hospital from January- December 2018. Method: Retrospective observational in preeclampsia patients at Sidoarjo General Hospital from January-December 2018. Results and Conclusions: All patients use of single Magnesium Sulfate. The single largest use of Magnesium Sulfate was at a concentration 20% (1x4g) iv bolus in 30 patients (49%), and Magnesium Sulfate was at a concentration 40% (1x10g) in 29 patients (47%). The highest switch pattern is Magnesium Sulfate 20% (1x4 gram) iv bolus to Magnesium Sulfate 40% (1x10 gram) iv drip in 28 patients (94%).
