Abstract

This research focused on the grammatical errors in speaking faced by the fourth semester students of English Language Education at University of Muhammadiyah Malang. The purposes of this research (1) to describe the types of grammatical errors in speaking faced by the fourth semester students of English Language Education Department at University of Muhammadiyah Malang, (2) to know the factors that influenced grammatical errors in their speaking. This research used a descriptive qualitative method to describe the grammatical errors in speaking. The subject of this research was the fourth semester students of English Language Education at University of Muhammadiyah Malang. This research used the interview as the technique. Besides, for instrument, the researcher used interview guideline. This research showed that the students made errors in parts of speech. There were seven errors found in the students’ speaking. They were noun, verb, adverb, adjective, preposition, pronoun, and conjunction. There was no interjection in the students’ errors. In addition, there were two factors influenced students’ errors. They were intrelingua-transfer and intralingua-transfer.
